盲人英语学习

    这篇文章是我在网上浏览的时候不经意发现的,我曾经也带过盲童的英语,感触颇深,所以转了过来,只是不知道作者的名字,致以崇高的敬意。   

 

    故事角落裡的这几位小学六年级的孩子,他们已经来听了两年半的英语故事了,不过,他们看不见图画书裡的 图像,看不见我的表情与动作,而我又尽量不想做中文翻译,因此他们能够猜中故事内容的机率并不高。虽然我以前曾试过模型、立体书,来帮助另一群孩子瞭解我所说的故事内容,但却都不是好的办法来帮助视障孩子拥有更多猜测英语的根据,因此这几年除了加入唱西洋老歌、请孩子说演故事之外,让孩子玩更多英语之外,我仍只是不断地说故事,希望能够让孩子在聆听上积沙成塔,在他们学习英语的路上累积「存款」。

     不过,这学期,感谢帮忙打点字的妈妈,帮我找到一个好办法了:

     依据故事情节的发展顺序,把重要词句打成点字,让孩子在聆听故事的时候,依赖这张点字卡来猜测故事情节。

       当然,我会在说故事之前,先用适合孩子程度的英语来做重点字的解释,然后才开始说故事。说故事的时候并注意按著重点字出现的顺序来叙说,就像翻书说故事一样,翻到哪页说哪页,在说到重点字的时候,速度放慢,并加强语气,让孩子知道我正说到那个字。有了重点字点字卡,我会把故事多说几次,因为我发现孩子在第一次摸点字听故事的时候,他们比较容易只专心注意是不是某个字出现了,而忽略倾听故事情节。因此多说几遍可以帮助孩子注意不同的故事元素。说完故事之后,除了依旧和孩子们一起讨论故事内容之外,我也会要求他们摸著点字卡重述或自编故事,一来可以确定孩子懂得新词句,二来也可以知道孩子听懂了多少。

     上一个礼拜,我讲了ONE FINE DAY这个经典故事,讲述一隻狐狸喝光了老婆婆的牛奶,被老婆婆切断了尾巴之后,如何跋山涉水地还了牛奶,让老婆婆把尾巴缝回去的故事。我列下了以下的重点字:fox、chop off、tail、old woman、milk、cow、grass、field、water、river、jug、young lady、bead、peddler、egg、hen、grain、farmer。

      故事之后,三个孩子根据这些重点字的点字卡自编了以下的故事:

恆祥:One day the fox go out.  And the fox chop off his friend’s tail.  But he say “Oh, sorry!”  and friend said “It’s ok.”  And old woman say “I want drink milk.”  And the fox find the milk.  He see a cow “moo!”  and he say “Cow, can you give me some milk?”  and cow say “I am hungry, so you should give me some grass.”  And he find the field and field said “If you want to take my grass, you should give me some water.  If don’t give me, I’ll kill you.”  And river is walking and the fox talk to river.  He say “I want some water.”  And river say “you should have a jug to 装some water.”  And fox find young lady and say “Can you give me a jug?”and young lady say “Oh, if you give bead, I’ll give you jug.”  And fox find a peddler, say “I am hungry, if you give the egg, I’ll give you a bead.”  And the fox find hen and hen say “I am hungry too, you should give me some grain.”  And the fox find the farmer and farmer gives some grain to him and the fox is happy.

依芳:One day, fox and old woman.  Old woman is chop off tail.  Old woman say “I drink a milk.”  Fox see a cow.  Cow “We don’t milk.  Cow eat grass.”  Cow field sleeping.  Fish in a river.  Fox drink a water.  Water in a jug.  Young lady buy bead.  Peddler give a bead.  Young lady is hungry, buy a egg.  Fox see a hen, hen eat grain.  Farmer get grain and egg and milk.  Fox get milk is old woman.  Old woman is happy.  The end.

诗婷:Farmer 种grain.  One day, hen eat egg and grain.  Peddler say “You are so bad.”  Hen say “You are so good.”  Peddler say “Oh, my!”  Hen 走到店裡。Hen say “do you bead?”  Young lady says “Yes!”  Hen says “You are so great!”  Young lady says “Do you want jug?”  Hen says “Oh, my!”  Young lady says ”丢到river。”   Hen says “No way!”  Hen says “Jug 裡面water.”  Young lady says “Oh!”  Farmer says “Your field?”  Hen says “Yes.”  grass晃来晃去。Cow says ”Can ;you eat milk?”  Grass says “No, I can’t”  Old woman say “Stupid cow.”  Old woman say  again.  “I chop off tail.”  Cow say “Oh, my!”  Fox say “Come in.”  Cow say “Yes!”  Door突然”Bon!”  Old woman say “Oh, my god!”

            这个礼拜,我讲的是THE GREEDY PYTHON,一隻最后连自己的尾巴都吃掉的贪心的大莽蛇的故事,重点字是:giant、appetite、stomach、mouse、frog、bat、fish、bird、porcupine、monkey、leopard、buffalo、elephant、meal、cough、hungry、astonishing、jaw、rear、swallow、disappear。当天,孩子们重述故事内容如下:

恆祥:A giant python in the jungle.  It is strong.  And one day it says “I am hungry.”  It’s appetite is good and he stomach is empty.  He swallow the mouse “jee-jee.”  Mouse is running.  The giant python still hungry.  And it keep swallow the frog and frog is jumping and swallow the bat. Bat is hanging.  And he say “Oh, I know.”  He swallow a fish the fish swim slowly.  And it swallow a bird.  And it just hungry now.  And he swallow the porcupine.  And he swallow the monkey, monkey is sleeping.  And it swallow the leopard and buffalo and elephant.  But one day, he meal is gone.  And he kick and have a stomachache and cough and any kind of animal is running out his mouth.  And he says “I am hungry now.”  And he see his tail and try to swallow and he is disappear.  The end.

依芳:The greedy python.  One day, the fish is swimming.  The monkey sleeping, the snake is 爬.  The bird is fly.  The elephant is hungry.  The elephant find tail.  The snake eat a tail.  The end.

诗婷:One day, the fish swimming slow.  Bird flying tree. The frog jump grass. The bat fly in the house.  The mouse walking池塘.  The snake eat, hungry.  Snake eat fish, bird, frog, bat, mouse, snake is eat tail.  Snake everyone is disappear.  Snake is die.

      虽然从孩子所重述的故事裡,我知道我还是需要多努力,才能帮助孩子学习英语,不过,这个办法还是值得一试的,因为虽然才试过两次,但孩子对故事的专注力是增加的,而且他们对於能够认识新字是高兴的,而不是只听过去就没了,就像明眼孩子听过故事,还可以拿书来看看图画一样。当然,使用这个方法还是有一个前提的,那就是必须在孩子能识字的情况下才能进行。
